Wayne Wallace and his band Rhythm and Rhyme do it live for the celebration and promotion of the new Patois release: “The Nature of the Beat.” Almost 20 musicians and singers took to the stage at Yoshi's in the Filmore last Week, performing cuts off the new album, as well as some of Wayne's other arrangements. With a crowded stage arrangement is the key word, as the mixture of R&B, Soul and Latin Jazz benefited completely with a diverse range of colors printed on paper in black and white by Dr. Wallace. The powerful 6 piece horn section is reminiscent of the big band recordings, while the syncopation and complex harmonies gives the music the excitement of modern jazz. With Vocals in English and Spanish, the simple lyrics bring context to what is being implied in contemporary Latin Jazz. To dance or to enjoy.
