Biltmore Cabaret
395 Kingsway (Howard Johnson Hotel)
Time: 8pm

Live concert with two local acts: Alex Cuba and Zapato Negro, part of Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad.
This singer-songwriter, originally from Artemisa in Cuba, 60 kilometres outside Havana, is now based in Smithers, British Columbia. His music playfully turns the commonly held notion of Cuban music on its ear. The Juno award-winning musician has toured Japan, the United Kingdom and North America, and had a hit single in both Canada and Japan in 2008 with Amor Infinito.
Featuring musicians from Cuba, Venezuela and Canada, Zapato Negro has been rapidly building a reputation in their own exciting blend of progressive jazz and Afro-Caribbean rhythm. with original compositions, underplayed jazz standards done in clave and classics of Latin music reworked, re-harmonized or re-rhythmicized in jazz. With Miguelito Valdés on trumpet, André Carrasquero on piano, Allan Johnston on bass, Gilberto Moreaux on drums and Iván Soto on congas.
