Willy Chirino
Pa' Lante
It’s easy to forget what a great singer Chirino can be, given the too wide range of his ambitions.
But, at his best, the man is one of the more gifted singers of his generation and Pa’Lante shows him off well, with a few straight-ahead salsa pieces — the fantastic "Por El Mismo Camino," which suggests he should record a whole album like it — a composition with a touch of reggaeton, even a sort of rock en Español tune.
Pa’Lante is pretty spectacular, even if it wanders; like the best of Miami productions, it’s just glimmering with sound; every piece fits and it all sounds radio ready, regardless of style.
Major work from a singer that’s often taken for granted.
